Stand-Alone Medical Practices
Corner Health Center
Approximately 1,700 patients, 6,800 visits
The Corner Health Center provides primary care, health education, and support for teenagers (12-21 years old) and their children. Services include family planning, prenatal, and postpartum care. The Center is staffed by medical residents and supervised by an attending physician, nurse practitioners, a certified nurse-midwife, social workers, and health educators. The Center is open on weekday afternoons. Washtenaw Health Plan members are accepted, as well as most insurance including Medicaid, and the Center offers care on a sliding fee scale for uninsured teenagers.
Hope Medical Clinic
Approximately 2,000 patients, 6,300 visits
Hope Medical Clinic is a free Christian clinic that provides primary care for low-income, uninsured community members. Community members with Washtenaw Health Plan, Medicaid, and Medicare are not accepted. Health care is provided by more than 90 volunteer physicians. The clinic is open at different times each day, with hours specified for either appointments or walk-in visits. The clinic does not provide birth control, narcotics, or services that are available at the Washtenaw County Health Department. Hope Medical Clinic is affiliated with Hope Dental Clinic and Hope Social Services.
Packard Health
Approximately 6,000 patients, 18,000 visits
Packard Health is a family practice that integrates primary care and on-site behavioral health care for community members of all ages. The practice is staffed by four full-time physicians, a family nurse practitioner, and a certified diabetes educator/nutritionist. In addition to primary medical care, Packard Health offers chronic disease management, individualized nutrition education, health promotion, patient advocacy, food pantry, and a federally funded Breast and Cervical Cancer Control program. Packard Health is open during business hours, most evenings, and Saturday mornings. Approximately 50% of Packard's care is provided to commercially insured patients; 50% of the care is provided for patients insured by Medicaid, Washtenaw Health Plan members, or uninsured community members who pay on a sliding fee scale.
Washtenaw County Health Department
The Washtenaw County Health Department oversees public health and offers free or low-cost flu shots, immunizations, family planning services, screening for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, tuberculosis screening, and WIC nutrition clinics at various times and locations throughout the county. St. Joseph Mercy Health System
Neighborhood Health Center
Approximately 3,000 patients, 9,100 visits
St. Joseph Mercy Health System runs two safety net clinics, the Neighborhood Health Center and Academic Internal Medicine. The Neighborhood Health Center, located in downtown Ypsilanti, offers primary care almost exclusively for uninsured and underinsured adults. Care is provided by two full-time physicians. The Center is open during business hours and accepts patients with Medicaid as well as the Washtenaw Health Plan. Additional services include counseling, prescription and food assistance, and patient advocacy.
St. Joseph Mercy Health System
Academic Internal Medicine
2,500 patients, 10,000 visits
Academic Internal Medicine, located at the Reichert Health Building, trains medical students and post-graduates in the prevention and treatment of adult diseases. Care is provided by 40-50 residents supervised by three attending faculty members. The Internal Medicine Clinic is open Monday through Friday during business hours. Most patients are Washtenaw Health Plan members or insured by Medicaid or Medicare.
University of Michigan - Ypsilanti Health Center
Ypsilanti Family Medicine and Ypsilanti Pediatrics
Approximately 7,500 patients, 32,000 visits
Ypsilanti Health Center is affiliated with the University of Michigan and houses two medical practices, Ypsilanti Family Medicine and Ypsilanti Pediatrics. Together the two practices provide integrated primary care and psychosocial care for children, adults, and seniors. In addition to patient care, the Center is a teaching site for medical students and residents, and a research site for medical issues related to minorities.
Ypsilanti Health Center is staffed by 10-15 part-time attending physicians along with medical residents. Approximately 50% of patients are insured by Medicaid; 20% are covered by the Washtenaw Health Plan. Other low-income, uninsured patients may apply for support from the University of Michigan charity care program. Ypsilanti Family Medicine is open during business hours, most evenings, and Saturday mornings.
